The first teaser for Blade Runner 2049 to actually tease anything substantial has been released, and in the 1:45 clip, we get a look at both Harrison Ford’s reprised character, Rick Deckard, and Ryan Gosling as a police officer named K. And then more ubiquitously, we get a tease of Denis Villeneuve’s direction — made all the more exciting after the sci-fi artfulness he displayed in Arrival.

In the trailer, we see Gosling’s K — himself a blade runner like Deckard once was — on a mission to find Deckard, which looks to be taking him away from the abysmal, perpetually rainy Los Angeles we came to know from the first film, and into a tangerine-tinted wasteland. Here, Deckard slowly creeps up on K, gun in hand, revealing the first words we’ve heard from the character in 30+ years, and giving Ford yet another opportunity to boldly reemerge as an iconic character he played long, long ago. (Which he...just keeps doing; it seems only a matter of time until we’re forced to catch up with his Six Days, Seven Nights character in the tastefully rendered sequel we all clearly needed.)

“I had your job once. I was good at it,” says Ford, pointing a gun at Gosling.

“Things were simpler then,” retorts Gosling.

Chilling sound cue. Feeling teased?

The film is set for release on October 6, 2017.
